lectern The ministry of lector (readers) is open to anyone over the age of sixteen. After individual training, the lector will generally serve in a rotating schedule at the Mass of their preference. Additional group training is provided at the annual Liturgical Minister Evening of Reflection.

Lectors receive a quarterly schedule and periodically receive an updated roster. It is the responsibility of the lector to schedule a substitute when they know they will be absent.

A resource for prayerfully preparing for each Mass is given to each lector every year. A pronunciation guide is kept in the sacristy. Video tapes on liturgical ministry are available for any lector to sign out.

Lectors are expected to contact Jim Rizzo and personally request to be scheduled for special celebration such as Confirmation and First Communion.

Then I said, "Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips, living among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!" Then one of the seraphim flew to me, holding an ember which he had taken with tongs from the altar. He touched my mouth with it. "See," he said, "now that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removed, your sin purged." Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?" "Here I am," I said; "send me!"   Jeremiah 6:5-8

In the word comes what is incomprehensible, the nameless, silent power that rules all but is itself unruled, the immense, the abyss in which we are rooted, the over bright darkness by which all the brightness of each day is encompassed - in a word, the aiding mystery which we call God, the beginning who is still there when we end. - Karl Rahner
