Loved Ones in Armed Forces
This ministry is an outreach to young adults. Life in the Armed Forces is a life without a permanent home. This is not only a war time ministry, but an all time ministry to any person who sacrifices a permanent home to follow their conscience and serve justice and freedom by serving in the US Armed Forces. We wish to recognize these young men and women as members of our community and make an effort to keep them connected to their faith and to their extended faith family. Do you have a loved one in the Armed Forces? Our parish would like to systematically offer them prayer, support, and words of encouragement. Each month, a different parish group will be invited to send a mailing of letters or care packages. If you would like to volunteer your group, please contact Pat Depenhart at 724-495-3397. Our main focus is to support the military members and their families stationed away from home. We are open to ideas and suggestions to make this a more effective ministry. You will find below (and on the 'Loved Ones in the Armed Forces' bulletin board at the entrance of the Church), a sign up card with three choices. You may simply ask that your loved one be included by first name only in our prayer network. Or, you can attach a photo for display on the new bulletin board in the entrance of the Church. If your loved one would enjoy cards or can make use of care packages, please share their address. Return the card in the collection basket.
Prayer for Our Men and Women in Military ServiceO Prince of Peace, we humbly ask Your protection for all our men and women in military service. Give them unflinching courage to defend with honor, dignity and devotion the rights of all who are imperiled by injustice and evil. Guard our churches, our homes, our schools, our hospitals, our factories, our buildings and all those within, from harm and peril. Protect our land and its people from enemies within and without. Grant early peace with victory founded upon justice. Instill in the hearts and mind of men and women everywhere a firm purpose to live forever in peace and goodwill toward all. Amen. |
