Ushers/Greeters
Ushers are the visible hospitality of the whole community. Ushers have a special role to play at every parish liturgy. The primary ministry of ushers is to be of service to everyone in the assembly so that all may celebrate the Sacred Liturgy as the holy people of God who became one in Christ. The Ushers are some of the first people that those entering the church encounter. Ushers help to maintain a prayerful atmosphere. Therefore, a true spirit of welcome should be the hallmark of their service. At the same time, Ushers are involved in some of the most important elements of good Liturgy, some of which include: escorting people to their seats and helping to find seats when the church is crowded, inviting people to bring up the gifts of bread and wine, taking up the collection, helping with the communion procession, handing out bulletins, and making sure the church looks neat after people have left. The ministry of hospitality (ushers) is open to anyone (male or female) over the age of fourteen. After individual training, the usher will generally serve in a regular schedule at the Mass of their preference. Additional group training is provided once a year in November. Ushers are expected to contact Louie and personally request to be scheduled for special celebration such as Confirmation and First Communion. Please check the usher closet bulletin board for sign ups for Holy Days. |
