The mission of St. Francis Cabrini Youth Group is to help the youth experience and desire a real and lasting relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ. We believe that involvement in the Mass and the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist, are the cornerstone to helping youth to develop this relationship.
Youth Ministry strives to empower our youth (grades 6-12) to live as disciples of Christ, to actively participate in the Church's mission, and to grow personally and spiritually.
Since the 1970s, the Church has learned a great deal about ministry with adolescents. Through the hard work of countless leaders in parishes, schools, and dioceses across the United States, we have discovered effective approaches, strategies, programs, and activities. We also have learned that no one strategy, activity, or program is adequate to the task of promoting the three goals for ministry with adolescents and that families, parishes, and schools cannot work in isolation if the Church is to realize its goals. We have learned that it takes the entire Church to achieve the three goals we have established for ministry with adolescents. The comprehensive framework for ministry with adolescents is designed to:
- utilize each of the Church's ministries-advocacy, catechesis, community life, evangelization, justice and service, leadership development, pastoral care, prayer and worship-in an integrated approach to achieving the three goals for ministry with adolescents;
- provide developmentally appropriate programs and activities that promote personal and spiritual growth for young and older adolescents;
- enrich family life and promote the faith growth of families of adolescents;
- incorporate young people fully into all aspects of church life and engage them in ministry and leadership in the faith community;
- create partnerships among families, schools, churches, and community organizations in a common effort to promote positive youth development.
Weekly E-mails This e-mail contains up-to-date information of all that is happening with the youth group. If you don't currently get a copy but would like to subscribe, e-mail Sean at netsean26@yahoo.com Hardcopies are made available on the youth ministry bulletin board.
Bulletin Board Contains pictures, permission forms, events calendars and hard copies of the weekly e-mails. The board is located in the outer vestibule on the back right side.
Life Nights The youth group meets every other week (with the exception of holidays or events) to discuss various topics and enjoy one another's company all while drawing closer to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A current list of dates can be found on the parish bulletin board.
Middle School Ministry Forming The planning of this group is in its beginning stages. I have some wonderful volunteers who will be a big help to me as the work progresses. Things are progressing well and it looks like a meeting with the volunteers will be taking place sometime in July. If you are in 6-8th grade or know someone who is, be sure to tell them about this group. It will only be as good as those who make it a point to attend. We'll be looking for you to come in packs this fall!
Child Care Ministry is a valued service for any 6th - 12th grader seeking to serve the parish, gain experience in early child development or education for the future, or gain service hours. Contact Ellen at 724-775-6363 to learn more.
Retreats The youth group offers various opportunities for a variety of retreats. NET & TEC retreats take place every year while the diocese or other parishes may offer other retreats on occasion. A NET (National Evangelization Team) Retreat has young adults from around the nation present a creative spiritual overnight retreat experience. TEC (Teens Encounter Christ) is an international retreat experience for seniors and college freshmen that immerses you into the Paschal Mystery. Both are awesome, don't miss opportunities!
Other Opportunities It is impossible to list all that we do but the calendar on the bulletin board should be a good way to get you acquainted with some of our events. If you are interested in any events that are listed or are interested in an event that you don't see on the list call Sean at 724-775-6363.
